An increasingly popular activity, Gorge Walking requires you to navigate your way through natural gorges by using a variety of physical movements such as running, jumping, climbing and swimming. While Gorge Walking can be a challenging activity, the rush of endorphins and the feeling of immense satisfaction that it provides make it all worthwhile. Combine this with nature’s beauty, and you have all of the ingredients for a truly epic activity. Even though Gorge Walking is becoming increasingly popular in England, Scotland and Ireland, it’s still significantly more popular in Wales. In the majority of countries outside of the UK, Gorge Walking is referred to as canyoning.
Is Gorge Walking a dangerous activity?
As with most activities, gorge walking only becomes dangerous when it’s done without training and the correct equipment. For gorge walkers with very little experience, being under expert supervision is of paramount importance. When enjoyed in a safe manner, very few activities can rival the adrenaline rush and satisfaction that gorge walking provides. At CIWW, we place a huge amount emphasis on safety. At the beginning of each session, we provide everyone with the correct safety equipment, and then teach them all of the techniques needed to get the most from their gorge walking experience.

We strongly advise against doing this because Gorge Walking without the right equipment, skills and experience can be extremely dangerous. To experience the activity as safely as possible, you should book the activity with a reputable provider. As mentioned above, we will provide you with all of the necessary safety equipment, and then provide expert coaching to ensure that you have a great, yet safe experience.
Is Gorge Walking a suitable activity for stag and hen groups?
Certainly, Gorge Walking has become a very popular choice of activity for Stag and Hen Party groups seeking something unconventional. The feel good factor that Gorge Walking provides makes it the ideal way to start a Stag or Hen weekend. It’s one of those experiences that the bride and groom will never forget!
Can Gorge Walking be enjoyed in the rain?
Of course! Gorge Walking is the perfect activity for a rainy day as you’re going to get wet anyway. You could say that rain adds to the fun of it. So if you’re up for getting even wetter, gorge walking in the rain is ideal! In extreme weather conditions, gorge walking is not advised. At CIWW, we don’t see rain as a problem, but if weather conditions are bad enough to put people in danger, we won’t allow them to go ahead with the activity.
How long do Gorge Walking sessions usually last?
This will vary depending on the company that you choose to go Gorge Walking with. At CIWW, our sessions last approximately four hours. During those four hours, expert training is provided by an experienced coach. We start gently and then speed up as you become more accustomed to the various techniques that Gorge Walking involves.
